To Trough or Not to Trough...

First, I would like to say I finally have a departure date.  I will be leaving on December 30th.  Looks like I'll be spending the New Year on a plane...for 14 hours!!

In other interesting China News...

I recently read a book called "Pretty Woman Spitting: An American's Travels in China", writtend by Leanna Adams.  She was 26 when she decided to teach in China instead of going to Law School (smart girl!!).  

During her travels she discovered the trough in a public bathroom in a bus station in China. She described it as an eight by ten room with one long gutter where women enterd the bathroom, found an open area, and dropped trow to do their business...and I mean ALL their business.  I am unsure as to how bad I would need to go to use one of these, but if I ever do, I will be sure to post all the gory details.   And maybe get a picture.  Gross.

I couldn't find a picture of a trough so here is the world's largest public restroom is in Chongqinq, China.

...whined no one ever until now (Thanks Rendo!!)

I am still here in America and not too happy about it.  I do have a quick update that the school I am working for has finally received my work permits from the Chinese Government.  That was the most time consuming part of this.  The company in U.S should receive the permits early next week and begin to process them here.  Still do not have a departure date, so it's moving...very slowly.

For all of you who are planning on visiting me (only kidding)  Below, is the new hotel opening January 1, 2012.

Jumped the Chinese Gun...

I spoke to the company today and found out China is having a 1 week holiday until October 7th.  After that they will reapply for my Visa which takes about 20 days.  So, even though my contract said I was starting on the 10th, I guess that is no longer the date.  This at least gives me a little more time to get ready and see everyone I wanted to see.  I'll keep you all posted.

Side note, I told my 4 year old nephew, Michael, that I was going to China and he said he wanted to go to.  I said "Nín hǎo" to him and he said "píng guǒ, that means apple", yes Michael, you are correct!!!

My First Blog...

Hello or Nín hǎo...so this is a blog.  I guess.  I've never written one, so please do not judge.

As you may know I journey to Huzhou, a city located in the north of Zhejiang Province, in about a week.  I still do not have my flight information but I signed a contract which states I start on the 10th, so we'll see.  Huzhou looks pretty cool.  It's on a lake and was where "Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon" was filmed.  I will be teaching in a private English facility which the kids go to after school and on the weekends.  The children range from elementary to middle-school aged children.  I will try not to return with any of the children.

In the next 10 month I will tell you the crazy tales of my travels as I go, since I'm sure there will be quite a few.
